MIL-STD
MIL-STD is the abbreviation for the US military standard. MIL-STD testing of products intended for use in military conditions is carried out directly by the manufacturer. The MIL-STD standard defines tests for the compatibility of devices and equipment in extreme conditions. Tests include resistance to air pressure, extreme temperatures (and temperature differences), sunlight, humidity (including salt spray), explosive atmospheres, acceleration, vibrations and shocks.
Unlike IP certification, MIL-STD standards, including the latest standard MIL-STD-810G, are not mandatory. Products with MIL-STD certification are used by NATO, NGOs and aid organisations, among others, but are also increasingly being used in the industrial sector.
