i.safe MOBILE launches production in Germany: A Clear Commitment to 'Made in Germany'

Made in Germany - i.safe MOBILE

At a press event held at its headquarters in Lauda-Koenigshofen, i.safe MOBILE officially announced the launch of its “Made in Germany” manufacturing operations. The company, which has recently been listed in WirtschaftsWoche’s World Market Leader Index, is now producing selected mobile devices in Germany. Products from the smartphone and tablet series for safe use in potentially explosive atmospheres and for critical infrastructure are manufactured in Germany, from development through final assembly to the final quality check.

Geopolitics and customer demands as drivers
The decision was not driven by a single factor, but by a combination of several developments. In an increasing number of countries and sectors – from public authorities and the defence sector to critical infrastructure – there is an explicit demand for devices with verifiable European or German manufacturing. Cybersecurity, data sovereignty and geopolitical independence are coming to the fore. Added to this are international customs discussions that have recently put established supply chains under pressure. Several years ago, a meeting with a European ministerial delegation summed up the situation perfectly: the devices were technically flawless, yet the response was: “We need devices made in Germany.” Those words left a lasting mark and set in motion a profound process of transformation.

“For us, ‘Made in Germany’ is not merely an indication of origin. It is the result of a conscious decision in favour of quality, safety and responsibility – towards our customers, our employees and Germany as a business location,” says Martin Haaf, CEO of i.safe MOBILE.

“Made in Germany”: What it means in practice
The “Made in Germany” quality seal stands for specific requirements. Essential, quality-determining aspects of a product must demonstrably be carried out in Germany. These include development, design, manufacturing and quality assurance. i.safe MOBILE meets all these criteria.

Individual components such as chipsets or battery cells come from global supply chains – as is standard practice throughout the electronics industry. The key point is: control over the finished product lies entirely with i.safe MOBILE. With production at two sites – in Germany and in Asia – i.safe MOBILE offers its customers a choice and can serve all markets worldwide flexibly.

Security as an integrated concept
At i.safe MOBILE, “Made in Germany” stands for a three-pillar security concept. At the organisational level, the information security management system covers the entire value chain. Work is already underway in Germany in accordance with the international ISO 27001 standard, and formal certification is being prepared. At the supply chain level, all relevant suppliers have been audited. This provides clear evidence for customers who are required to provide proof under the EU NIS2 directive on cybersecurity. At the product level, the devices already meet all the requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act, which will become mandatory from 2027.

Outlook: New markets, increasing vertical integration
The commitment to ‘Made in Germany’ opens up access to new markets for i.safe MOBILE: primarily the USA, Japan and India, as well as the growing sector of critical infrastructure worldwide. The aim is to systematically expand vertical integration at the German site and establish further value chains in Europe. Active discussions with partners, such as battery manufacturers, packaging companies and injection moulders from the region, are already underway.

With the extension at its headquarters in Lauda-Koenigshofen, i.safe MOBILE has also created the physical conditions for further growth. The new building is more than just a structural extension. It stands for a clear commitment to the location, the region and the ambition to set the direction as a global innovation leader.
