More space for growth, ‘Made in Germany’ production and new talent: grand opening in the year of the company’s 15th anniversary

Lauda-Königshofen, 7 October 2026 – On 1 October, i.safe MOBILE officially opened its new and extended building at its headquarters in i_Park Tauberfranken. The global market leader for intrinsically safe mobile devices has invested around 6.5 million euros, thereby doubling its floor space at the site from 1,800 to 3,600 square metres. Among other things, this has created more than 50 modern office workstations, as well as storage and production areas. Around 70 guests from the political and business circles and the local region joined the company in celebrating the occasion.

Growth needs space

At the start of the event, CEO and founder Martin Haaf explained the need for the expansion: having started with five employees in 2011, i.safe MOBILE has grown to more than 135 employees worldwide, around 95 of whom are based at the Lauda-Königshofen site. Added to this is the company’s in-house manufacturing: since 2026, the company has been producing selected devices entirely in Lauda-Königshofen and requires additional production and logistics space for this. And the growth continues, most recently with a turnover increase of around 15 per cent. “This building is not an end in itself, but a prerequisite for our continued growth. Standing still would have been the more costly decision for us,” said Haaf. “We are creating space here for new ideas and talent and sending a clear signal about our location.”

Extending rather than building from scratch

Architect Klaus Schreiner and his son Rico Stoermer of SCHREINER Architekten presented the concept: rather than building from scratch on a greenfield site, the existing building was extended. The new logistics hall was integrated into the slope, the office building was raised by one storey, and an entrance building with a foyer, lift, offices and meeting rooms was added to the north side. The design is characterised by exposed concrete, exposed timber and steel, as well as a textile façade, which is the first of its kind in the Main-Tauber district. Seventeen specialist planning firms and 46 companies were involved, most of them from the region.

A working environment tailored to the staff’s wishes

Anja Mahler, Chief Marketing Officer at i.safe MOBILE, was responsible for the project from planning through to completion. Haaf expressly thanked her for managing the construction project alongside her responsibilities as CMO. The spatial concept was based on a staff survey. This resulted in a ‘New Work’ environment featuring open-plan areas, traditional offices, a ‘Work Café’ and a ‘Project Space’, all designed to attract skilled workers and young talent. Construction took place whilst the business continued to operate, and the building site held a number of surprises that required quick solutions and flexibility. “You never really finish planning. You just keep on planning,” said Mahler. She expressed her gratitude to her colleagues, who had put up with the noise, dust and temporary arrangements with great patience over the course of several months.

Support from the region

In their welcoming speeches, the guests from the political sphere paid tribute to the company’s commitment. Prof. Dr Wolfgang Reinhart emphasised that i.safe MOBILE combines a global outlook with strong regional roots. District Administrator Christoph Schauder praised the new building as a successful eye-catcher, whilst Mayor Dr Lukas Braun commended the company’s clear commitment to the Lauda-Königshofen location. Among the guests were representatives from schools in the region, who are key partners for i.safe MOBILE in recruiting young talent.

The celebrations were accompanied by music from the company band, which performed as the ‘Construction-Band’ alongside tradespeople and neighbours from the i_Park. CTO Dirk Amann led the band, and CEO Martin Haaf also picked up an instrument to join in. The building was blessed by Reverend Joachim Seraphin. During guided tours, guests explored the new premises, which left many with a genuine ‘wow’ factor. The evening drew to a close on the newly added top floor, which offers sweeping views over Lauda.

Outlook

With this extension, i.safe MOBILE is well-equipped for its next phase of growth. In addition to the traditional markets of oil and gas, chemicals and mining, applications in process automation and mission-critical communications for public authorities and emergency services are gaining importance. Internationally, the company is continuing to expand its presence through its subsidiaries in Singapore and Australia, as well as Exloc Instruments in the UK and the USA. i.safe MOBILE is also planning double-digit growth for 2026. Development, planning and, increasingly, manufacturing for this are taking place in Lauda-Königshofen.
